GreenDIYEnergy
Of the available DIY solar panel guides, GreenDIYEnergy is the best and also the most complete. They include ebooks, videos and spreadsheets – 17 different components in all. The videos are what really separate GreenDIYEnergy from the other guides.
Included in GreenDIYEnergy are 6 videos which show the entire build process. The videos are high quality 852×480 mp4 videos. Compared to the videos in the other guides, the videos in GreenDIYEnergy are much larger and higher quality. The videos go all the way from start to finish, step-by-step and look terrific. The high resolution and big size make it easy to see everything.
The videos start with what tools and parts you’ll need for the solar panels. Then they move on to getting and connecting the solar cells. Building the container and affixing the solar cells is covered next. Then the videos show final wiring and finishing of the solar panel. The last step is connecting the solar panel to a volt meter so you can watch it producing electricity.
Also included in GreenDIYEnergy are ebooks covering solar installation, solar electrical, solar tax credits and DIY solar power. The ebooks are very comprehensive, with over 200 total pages. Also included are spreadsheet which will show you how many solar panels you’ll need, sizing for batteries, charge controller and power inverter and how much electricity your appliances consume.
I’ve bought and reviewed a lot of DIY solar guides in preparation for building solar panel for my electric bike and GreenDIYEnergy is the best and most complete DIY solar guide I have seen. For my complete review, visit GreenDIYEnergy Review .
Homemade Energy
Homemade energy is another very good guide to building a DIY solar panel. It also includes videos, in fact more videos than any other guide. There are also ebooks, though not as many as GreenDIYEnergy, and spreadsheets that are very similar.
Homemade Energy includes more videos than any other DIY solar guide. They show the whole build step-by-step in plenty of detail. Tools and parts, soldering the cells together, building the container, attaching the cells, wiring and finishing. Everything from what parts and tools you need to wiring the solar cells together to constructing the panel container to final wiring is covered. They are flash videos and are very good, though not quite as big and high quality as the videos in GreenDIYEnergy.
All parts of the build are covered in the comprehensive ebook include with Homemade Energy. My suggestion would be to watch the videos all the way through and then use the ebook as a reference. The spreadsheets they include are pretty similar to the ones in GreenDIYEnergy.
GreenDIYEnergy includes more ebooks and has higher quality video so I would give it the nod over Homemade Energy, but Homemade Energy is also quite good and does have more video than GreenDIYEnergy. Homemade Energy provides a good quality product, though, and you do get your money’s worth.

Earth4Energy
In third place is Earth4Energy. They include videos, online calculators and ebooks, however there are less of them than the other two packages. While I think the other guides are ahead of Earth4Energy when it comes to a solar project, it is the only guide to include video for a wind project.
The videos included in Earth4Energy cover the most difficult aspects of building a solar panel, but they are not comprehensive. The other 2 guides show you the whole things step-by-step in videos while Earth4Energy relies on the ebook for much of the solar panel build.
The ebook that Earth4Energy provides is pretty good, but it isn’t nearly as complete as the guides above. Earth4Energy includes online calculators for appliance electricity requirements, solar panel output and battery sizing.
So, can you build a solar panel with Earth4Energy? It’s definitely possible to build a solar panel with what is included in Earth4Energy, but both of the other guides have more video and the video is the most important part of guides like this. Earth4Energy also includes video for a DIY wind generator and is the only guide to do so. For a solar project, you can definitely build a solar panel using the Earth4Energy guide, but both of the other guides above will give you more for your money.
