Go Solar Power For Homes

NOW Is The Time To Go Solar Power For Homes!

After such an unprecedented month of global turmoil, we have hardly had time to draw breathe. A lot has happened this last month but we wanted to look back 30 days and pay tribute to Friends of the Earth for achieving one huge success when the Climate Change Bill became law in the UK.

Yes! After more than 40 months of campaigning by Friends of the Earth, Parliament finally voted on 28th October to make the Climate Change Bill official UK law. A massive step forward for those who love solar power for homes, the extent of this legislation is should not be understated as it is nothing short of awe-inspiring.

This is the very first law of its kind in the world and marks a huge step forward in the fight against climate change. The passing of this law means that the UK Government must commit to deep cuts in the nation’s greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.

As a result of this Law, we will see:

•    Huge cuts
At least 80% cuts in greenhouse gases by 2050.

•    Monitoring
Regular reporting to Parliament to check we’re on track.

•    Policy
Government will have to consider climate impacts in all of its policies.

•    Solutions
Clear direction will give business the confidence to invest in environmentally friendly solutions to climate change.

You could say that in three years, people power has changed politics. The Climate Change Bill became law as a result of an unprecedented amount of people getting together to call for a strong, viable sustainable climate law.

Launched in 2005, Friends of the Earth’s Big Ask campaign had nearly 200,000 speaking to their MP directly - by letters, email, posting a video clip or in person.

With the added emphasis created by the support from highly respected celebrities like Thom Yorke from Radiohead, the Big Ask campaign will go down in environmental history as a major success.

BBC political editor, Nick Robinson, had this to say. “People often ask: ‘Does anything change politics?’ Well it has here.”

We, the public demanded a strong climate law and the government has been forced to give it to us. Now it is important that we don’t stop there. Keep moving in an environmentally responsible way. Look towards wind and solar power for homes. Buy ecologically sound products.

So now you know it works, keep pressing your government for more change to make a cleaner world for our children and our children’s children.
