Watch your host Kevin Contreras as he makes chicken marsala in one of his favorite innovations, a solar oven, reminding us of yet another fun, easy yet great way to green our daily lives.

Cooking that chicken couldnt be easier and the oven looks easy to maintain too.

Info on where to find an oven such as the one seen here can be found on the BGTV website.

    the best way to …
the best way to design and promote solar cooking is by foregoing the notion it is for saving the planet, or the rain forests.
instead focus on it’s practicality and convenience.
if it needs rocket science to make it so, then so be it. apply rocket science in solar cooker design.

    This sort of …
This sort of technique for cooking, along with others, could spread during summer barbecues. Then it might become common place enough and will continue into a normal way of cooking at home. Its a small price to pay to protect our planet as we know it. Its too bad the majority of Americans are just too lazy to take advantage of this great, money saving idea.

    Ants don’t like 200 …
Ants don’t like 200 plus degrees temperatures. The device should be air tight anyway if it isn’t it will not cook properly. I want a cooker that uses a pressure cooker for quick stuf and an oven for the slow stuff like bread and whole taters & onions. You don;t have to spend tons of money on this you can build your own not as fancy but if you insulate it make it air tight it should work build it to where ir remains in the sun al the time so it would be preheated when you need it.

    You could use an …
You could use an old freezer or oven too drill holes to place rods through line the bottom with bricks so it would be preheated when you decided to add food the thing would handle a rain too if you think of it there are many possibilities using discarded appliances. This one featured is a great portable device but if you have space build a huge oven bake 10 chickens same oven sell them at work.

    You can take an …
You can take an iron bathtub paint the interior black build a frame aroud the tub top and use old store front glass to cover you can get some insulation and wrap around the outer base of the tub and you would have a great oven bake a lot of food at one time that way you can cook one day and munch the rest of the week perhaps you prepare the night b4 and set it in cookr in the am go fishing and return to the weeks food cooked. Cook 14 taters, onions, eggs you can make other stuff with that .

    I made a solar oven …
I made a solar oven today out of cardboard. Initially, I had to rebuild the lid to make it tight-fitting. I’m making steel cut oats, which otherwise takes a long time to nuke or cook on the stove. This way I can just set them out at 10 am, take them in at 5 PM or so, and just reheat them.. in the microwave the next day. Nuking them from the beginning took me 20 min. for two bowls-full, so that’s 20 min. of nuke power I don’t have to use. Wish I had a better constructed one like yours though.

    you ers who …
you ers who think this takes too long are just spoiled little brats who are consumed in this instant culture. If you know anything about cooking, you’d realize that slow cooking at lower temperatures makes the meat much more tender and juicier. I slow cook my chicken in the gas oven at 250F for 4-5 hrs anyway. Smoking meat takes much longer than that, but is well worth it. This is an excellent way to cook on a hot day cuz the kitchen stays cool!

    Is amazing this …
Is amazing this simple “technology” and how efective it is, in a sunny territory (Have to be specific for some people). i found a book from the 70’s showing this invention in use and is unbelievable how hidden has been, is all about energy sources now, but if is free… surely is not gonna work…don’t bother

You could cook food on your engine too say you are going on a long trip you can place the food under the hood and cook it. There is a website devoted to this form of cooking with complete directions and recipes.
