Pope Benedict XVI has subscribed to the movement for solar power for homes by becoming the first pontiff to harness home solar energy for the Vatican.

Taking the case for solar power for homes to a new level, solar energy panels have been installed on the roof of the Paul VI auditorium, the Vatican City’s papal audience hall, making it probably the most famous solar power house in the world.

Old roof tiles on the Paul VI auditorium are being replaced by 2,700 brand new solar energy panels. It is estimated that by converting sunlight into electricity, these solar roof panels (aka photovoltaic cells) will generate enough home solar energy to light, heat or cool the 6,000 seat hall.

Conserving global resources has long been a priority for the German-born Pope. Since he was elected in 2005, German-born Benedict XVI has criticised “the unbalanced use of energy” in the world, stating that environmental damage was making “the lives of poor people on earth especially unbearable”. Now he has acted on his words, giving the green light for others to install solar power for homes all around the world.

In energy terms, the solar roof panels installed will give out the equivalent of 70 tonnes of oil, cutting out as much as 200 tonnes of carbon dioxide.

When the hall is not in use, the surplus home solar energy produced will be redirected into the Vatican’s power network, thereby making year round savings.

The solar energy panels were donated as a gift to the Pope by Bonn-based solar power for homes company, Solar World. Reportedly, the solar panels cost approximately $1.5m.

Everyone here at gosolarpowerforhomes.com salutes the Pope for this landmark decision. We hope that his lead will induce many other major statesmen to follow his shining example and play their part by joining the movement to go solar power for homes!

Solar power, microwave cooking and LED lights contribute, with cell phones, small efficient computers, transistor radios, LED “Grow Lights” plastic vapor barriers and GMO’ed bug free veggies to an independent lifestyle, away from dependence of individuals on society and towards their ability to support themselves and help others. Large, independent groups, generating self-sufficient members can give power to the people and render large Wall Street organizations powerless. Passive solar heating, super insulating, and gardening will make any depression survivable. Applied science and technologies of today far exceed 1930’s standards. We will throw this “Great Depression” in the face of “The Man” and make profit from it. Our technology will be our vehicle!
