Eco-hero Johnny Depp recently invited Douglas Brinkley, contributing editor for Vanity Fair onto his yacht to come along with him and visit his private island getaway. It was a tough job, but someone had to do it.

Star of such great movies as Edward Scissorhands, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, most famously he starred as Jack Sparrow in the hugely successful Pirates of the Caribbean series.

As we mentioned previously in this blog, Depp and his beautiful wife Vanessa Paradis and children have thoughtfully invested in their own private $3million 40-acre solar powered getaway island in the Bahamas.

Depp bought the island back in 2005 and affectionately named it “F**k Off! Island.” As he said, “I don’t think I’d ever seen any place so pure and beautiful. You can feel your pulse rate drop about 20 beats. It’s instant freedom.”

Officially known as “Little Hall’s Pond Cay”, the island’s living conditions have purposefully be made to be as green as possible. Most importantly, he has commissioned a grid-independent solar hydrogen system that in itself is a revolutionary breakthrough in solar power technology. This island will shortly be entirely self-sufficient for energy, utilizing state-of-the-art solar power for homes technology.

Clearly Johnny Depp is as thoughtful in ‘real life’ as he is in his acting work. As has been previous said in this blog – Johnny Depp clearly is a real star in every sense of the word.

The issue of Vanity Fair hit newstands June 3rd. Simply click the text link if you want to see a preview.
