Google Teaches How To Install Solar Power For Homes

Please excuse me for the fact that this solar power for homes video is a bit late, but I have a good reason. I only just stumbled on this video about solar power for homes today and I think it is really excellent.

What it is is the Google Tech Talks of August 3, 2007. I dont post it as an eery statement like “Ooh, look how things have changed!” It’s simply here because it is hugely informative and I thought you’d benefit from seeing it. It’s all about solar power for homes and it’s coming direct from the mouths of google.com employess after all!

The video presents a case study of two google.com employees who have had solar power for homes installed at their houses. They ask the questions, Why? What are the issues that you might face? What is the process? How do you establish what size your solar power for homes system needs to be? How do you place the solar power for homes system? How can you predict your production levels from your solar power for homes system?

They talk about energy conservation and how well does it work? They go into detail about system measurements. All in all, this is a valuable video and it will be time well spent for you to watch it I think.

I hope you agree with me that it really doesnt matter that the vid was shoy a couple of years ago.

Let me know what you think!

All the best,

    I think the point …
I think the point of living off the grid is to get away from a system where you need money. I think its funny how theres no real videos on here on how to go about hooking yourself up with solar or wind energy, unless you pay up for the knowledge!

Here is a way that …
Here is a way that a residential house could effectively store solar energy during the five hours of good sunshine, to last for the full twenty-four hours. Use a hydraulic elevator system lifting a very heavy weight, where the energy is stored by the gravity of the weight. When the sun goes down,or when more power is needed during the five hours of good sunshine, the very heavy weight movement is reversed and the hydraulics is used to generate power.

    I just read that a …
I just read that a guy in Africa found a new material that has made all the present solar panels obsolete. His material makes it possible to even run your home in the winter under cloud cover. A company in Germany is supposed to build them but as far as I found they are only going to be available commercially. It Figures. No one wants to help the home owner get away from high utility bills.

    Do you always have …
Do you always have to use sun light to charge a solar cell battery. Or is it possible to use laser light or even infared light as well. For places like a diver deep under water or in dark night like on a James bond spy movie were his watch needs charging at night don’t think moon light will work so shining a laser on watch charge in five minutes. Also should panels be flat or a ball shape to capture all angles of sun light.(when driving in different direction of a car ride.More surface area.
