From the roof of GE’s Global Research Center, Vlatko Vlatkovic, GE’s head of renewable energy research beautifully explains how photovoltaic panels make solar energy and how GE can make more from this incredible free and clean resource.
The sun sends about 1,000 watts per square meter t the earth every time it shines. We can use silicon solar cells to create useable electricity from the son’s energy. The sunlight hits the blue surface silicon on the panel and causes electrons to free themselves. They are then collected by the aluminium tracers that are collected together within a solar array that eventually goes to feed the energy into inverters from which comes the electrical energy that you use in your house as electricity, just like any other form of electricity you have ever encountered.
GE has been research different ways of processing silicon. Here he shows you how he is hoping to cut the productiion costs in half by reducing increasing efficiency and then the actual physical size of the panels in half. GE will be using advanced nano-technology to keep looking for further improvements.
Watch this video and you will see why GE is so hot on solar energy.GE are looking to seemlessly integrate the latest solar power generating technology into the house that you are building. We are talking SERIOUS solar power for homes here!
It’s the future – dont you LOVE it!
