He seems to get caught time after time, making false statements/claims regarding global warming. Are people taking him serious anymore?

“Inconvenient truth for Al Gore as his North Pole sums don’t add up”

"There are many kinds of truth. Al Gore was poleaxed by an inconvenient one yesterday.
The former US Vice-President, who became an unlikely figurehead for the green movement after narrating the Oscar-winning documentary An Inconvenient Truth, became entangled in a new climate change “spin” row.

Mr Gore, speaking at the Copenhagen climate change summit, stated the latest research showed that the Arctic could be completely ice-free in five years.

In his speech, Mr Gore told the conference: “These figures are fresh. Some of the models suggest to Dr [Wieslav] Maslowski that there is a 75 per cent chance that the entire north polar ice cap, during the summer months, could be completely ice-free within five to seven years.”

However, the climatologist whose work Mr Gore was relying upon dropped the former Vice-President in the water with an icy blast.

“It’s unclear to me how this figure was arrived at,” Dr Maslowski said. “I would never try to estimate likelihood at anything as exact as this.”

Mr Gore’s office later admitted that the 75 per cent figure was one used by Dr Maslowksi as a “ballpark figure” several years ago in a conversation with Mr Gore.

The embarrassing error cast another shadow over the conference after the controversy over the hacked e-mails from the University of East Anglia’s Climate Research Unit, which appeared to suggest that scientists had manipulated data to strengthen their argument that human activities were causing global warming."

Meadow F…… thank you.
Richard, your apology is accepted.

No, just look at his response to the climategate emails.

Al Gore is getting BORING (as in Al Bore). His claim that he invented the internet was blown away when Bush asked him during a debate: "If you did invent the internet, why does everything start with a "W" ?

Since he has no credibility left to lose, no one cares anymore what he thinks or says.

Not at all… He was recently quoted as saying that the temperature "just a couple km below the Earths crust are 1 mil. degrees."

We have miners who are more than "a couple" kilometers below the earths crust. And the surface of the sun is only 5,510 degrees Centigrade (9,950 degrees Farenheit).

    He’s an idiot.

Al Gore is a hypocrite to the very definition. Let’s look at this for example. He owns a smaller house than George Bush. George Bush’s house runs on about all solar electricity. Al Gore installed solar panels on his house a few years ago. If you look at their energy consumption, Al Gore’s is still more; the kilowatts he takes in every year are greater than George Bush’s who couldn’t care less about the human caused climate change bullshit.

If anyone takes him seriously, or follows his ’cause’ they must really be desperate to make themselves feel better, like they’re actually making a difference.

    Al gore is a moron.
    He just likes the attention.

Global warming is happening, however, it is my belief that it is a natural occurrence in conjuncture with all that we (mankind) do.

I’ll also state now that I am all for helping the environment. Recycling, no hair spray, blahblah. I’m all for getting rid of the bad and bringing in the new. Just look At Bush, that was all me ;p

You have to remember that Big Al went to school at one of the most fundamentalist seminaries in the world and he flunked out. He never went to a university. So if he flunked out of one of the most fundamentalist religious schools in the US engineered to the job of turing out ministers to empty your bank account into theirs just how trustworthy should we consider this man to be.

I wasn’t aware that he had any credibility to start with. It always cracks me up when the alarmists say that the skeptics know nothing about science, then an alarmist comes on here and tells us to watch Al Gore’s movie to find real science.

Actually richard, You may want to do some more research, The viewpoint that man is either not the major cause of GW or GW is not occurring is in the majority, not the minority. To denounce our credibility, you should at least no be speading lies.

    Dawn,
You are incorrect, the rise in temps in not abnormal throughout history. In fact the ice ages all came in a relatively short period of time. To be wrong is alright, to state that a group of people are imbeciles, and then staate something that is entirely incorrect, make you look like an imbecile.

Also I am having trouble understanding your point about the .75 degree drop. If you are suggesting that Al Gore’s movie has helped, I would point to the fact that the CO2 level has continued to rise. So are you suggesting that our thinking about the climate has made a positive impact?

Actually, someone with no credibility should ever ask about another person’s credibility. You’re bound to get the answer you want from your ideologues. Problem for you is your view is in the minority.

Do you believe that Al Gore has any credibility left?

To me he has very little credibility. Each time I listen to him speak on climate change he loses even more credibility. He is like his own worst enemy.

The energy audit on his home is a good example, as well as the denial of the hacked emails.

if you actually believe that climate change is a hoax, or is in any way not a significant threat to the safety and well-being of humanity, then you truly are a grade-a imbecile.

fact of the matter is, over the past 100 years, the average temperatures everywhere on earth have risen by .8*C, compared to an average shift of less than .2*C for a comparable time frame anywhere in the history of the world prior to the industrial revolution, excluding ice-ages.

and what’s more, al gore may be a boring old stuffy politician, but at least he’s a politician who is actually trying to do something that would benefit the whole of humanity, whether he gains profit from it or not.

besides, since the release of ‘An Inconvenient Truth,’ the temperatures on earth have dropped by 3/4 of one degree (Fahrenheit scale) – a big change for less than a decade, considering our average temperatures rose about 3/4 of 1 degree Fahrenheit in a matter of about 30 – 50 years following 1880. and on top of that, it only helps to prove that this change, this effect, IS man-made.

    grow up.

Al Gore is just the only activist with any money or power, while as a human being is a douche bag, he does spread the word rather well on global warming and environmental issues. If you have ANY doubts about what’s happening to the earth right now, visit a scientific website and get the numbers for yourself. I wont swing you one way or another, just get the data and make your own assessment. stop following mommy and daddy and fox & friends.

No, none whatsoever. But having said that, i wouldn’t call him the spokeperson for the AGW movement, just a political hack who jumped on a bandwagon. I think the whole green movement needs to repudiate him NOW before he does serious damage to their credibility.

    ————————————————————-

    @ Richard the Physicist.

Actually, sceptics on AGW are in the majority. in America only 36% of people think that global warming is real and caused by man.

In the UK a recent poll found [quote] that only two in five people in Britain accept as an established scientific fact that global warming is largely man-made [unquote].

Which of course proves nothing at all one way or the other. But to say that the sceptics are a minority is untrue and unhelpful.
